Asian Development Bank-JSP Scholarships, Australia: Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) at the University of Sydney, Australia
In April 1988 with support and financing from the Government of Japan, The Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) was established.
The main objective of the scholarship is to provide an opportunity to well-qualified citizens of ADB’s developing member countries to undertake postgraduate studies in development-related fields.
However, upon completion of their study programs, the scholars are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries.

Approved Fields of Study at the University of Sydney:
- Master of International Public Health
- Master of Health Security
- Master of International Relations
- Master of Project Management
- Master of Public Health
Eligibility criteria: the Applicant must:
- be living and working in their home country
- be a citizen of the Asia Development Bank’s developing member countries
- have gained an unconditional offer for one of the approved postgraduate courses listed above
- have a minimum of 2 years full-time professional work experience (acquired after a university degree) at the time of application
- be 35 years of age or under at the time of application
- not have already completed a master degree or previously studied overseas
How to Apply: The applicant must:-
- submit an application for admission to one of the above degrees directly to the University, using the ‘apply now’ option within Find a course which would take the candidate to the Sydney Student portal where one can apply and upload the supporting documents.
- The University of Sydney application processing fee (APF) will be waived off if the student uploads the ADB-JSP Information Sheet.
- Only if the applicant receives an unconditional offer to one of the above degree programs prior to the ADB-JSP application deadline, the ADB-JSP application will be considered.
- If the offer made to the candidate is conditional on English language proficiency or academic documentation one must provide all the required documents before the ADB-JSP scholarship deadline.
- Evidence of two years work experience and the latest income tax return (an official letter from an employer may be accepted in cases where an income tax return is not available).
- Applicants will not be allowed to apply for the ADB-JSP scholarship more than 3 times. Previously unsuccessful applicants must wait one year before re-applying.
Selection Criteria:
The University will nominate eligible students to the ADB on the basis of following criteria. However, only successful students will be notified via email.
- Applicants with less than two years of work experience will not be selected
- Preference will be given to candidates with outstanding academic achievement.
- Preference will be given to female candidates.
- Preference will be given to applicants with a lower financial capacity.
