The Department “Molecular Theory and Spectroscopy” is currently looking for a candidate with a strong background in spectroscopy and quantum chemistry for a Postdoc position.

The postdoctoral position is available in the department of Molecular Theory and Spectroscopy within the Max Planck MAXNET Energy research initiative.

Position details:

  1. The position is available as of July 1, 2017, however the starting date is flexible.
  2. The position is initially for 12 months and is remunerated according to the labor agreement for public service (TVöD).
  3. A prolongation up to 24 months is possible.

Job description

  1. Looking for a candidate with a strong background in spectroscopy & quantum chemistry to strengthen our research team.
  2. The candidate will carry out timely investigations related to water oxidation. The project comprises:
    1. spectroscopic investigation of brown IrCl62-in aqueous solution its blue counterpart at alkaline pH as a precursor material for the IrOx water oxidizing catalyst by EPR, MCD, Raman, spectroscopy
    2. analysis and interpretation of the electronic structure with the help of quantum chemistry and ligand field theory.
    3. The candidate will be working in the stimulating environment

Required Qualifications

  1. PhD degree in physical or theoretical chemistry.
  2. Advanced knowledge of electronic spectroscopy and quantum chemistry would be desirable.
