South Australian Government Catherine Helen Spence Memorial Scholarship in Australia

The South Australian Government offer Catherine Helen Spence Memorial Scholarship for South Australian Students to study in Australia or Overseas. The scholarship is available for PhD, masters or honors degree Programmes in social sciences for the academic year 2017.

South Australia Scholarship is aimed at students from social sciences and provides.

South Australia is the southern, central state of mainland Australia. South Australia also has a large agricultural industry and is a major wine producer. The National Wine Centre located in Adelaide is fitting, considering SA produces over 45 percent of the country’s wine grape crush.

Course Level: This scholarship is available to pursue PhD, masters or honours degree programme.

Study Subject: Scholarship is awarded to Social Sciences.

Scholarship Award: Scholarship has a value of up to $25,000.

Scholarship can be taken in Australia or Overseas

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

  • Are a woman between the age of 20 and 35 years of age
  • Live in South Australia
  • Have lived in South Australia for at least five years immediately prior to the awarding of the scholarship
  • Will be able to commence the scholarship project by February 2018 – or earlier
  • Will be able to carry out and complete the research project within 18 months of commencement – by August 2019
  • Will be using the scholarship to investigate or study contemporary issues in the field of social sciences relevant to South Australian social conditions.

Notwithstanding the above, the Committee may, if, having regard to the relative merits of the candidates for an award of the Scholarship, it considers it appropriate to do so, award the Scholarship to a woman who is resident in the State of South Australia at the time of the selection of the scholar but does not fulfil either or both of the requirements in relation to age or length of residence in the State.

Applicants do not need to be currently employed, studying or attached to an organisation or institution to apply for the scholarship.

The scholarship may be combined with PhD, Masters or Honors degree study.

Nationality: Australia citizens are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme.

English language Requirements: The candidate should have a very good command over the English language.

How to Apply: The successful applicant must:

  • Establish a dedicated bank account and debit card for the scholarship and make these records available to the committee.
  • Be able to seek the ethics approvals required to undertake the research prior to commencement of the research project (the committee can provide some assistance with this)
  • Commence the research project in or before February 2018
  • Provide progress updates as negotiated with the committee
  • Provide a final written report of about 20,000 words to the committee in both printed and electronic form within 18 months after commencement of the project
  • Ensure the Catherine Helen Spence Scholarship is acknowledged in all publications and presentations as a source of funding
  • Be available for events as required
  • Discuss media responses with the committee
