MIF has started receiving application for “2017 Research Fellowship Program” : The MATSUMAE fellowship is open to post-doctoral researchers under the age of 49 and is awarded for the purposes of research conducted at Japanese institutions. Candidates Program runs for 3-6 months. Candidates must possess a PhD and must have published recently.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants of non-Japanese nationality who meet all of the following eligibility requirements are invited to submit  the required application documents.
1. A Ph.D. (Doctorate) degree.
2. Under 49 years old at the time of application.
3. Applicants must have sufficient conversational ability in English or Japanese to prevent insurmountable difficulties during their research activities in Japan.
4. Applicants should not have been in Japan in the past and/or in the present.
5. Applicants should have firm positions and professions in their home countries, and should return to their countries on completion of their fellowship stay by MIF.
6. Applicants must be of sound health and not physically handicapped in any way which would not prevent from carrying out research in Japan.

The Ministry of Finance, Government of Japan is offering Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development (ORD), 2017 to recognize and support excellent research proposals from researchers of developing countries and transition economies.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants of Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development (ORD), 2017 must be nationals of low or middle-income countries.
  • Citizens of eligible countries who are based in non-eligible countries temporarily for not more than 5 years as of 16 July 2017.
  • The age of the applicants must not be more than 45 years as of 16 July 2017.
  • Candidates applying for Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development (ORD), 2017 should not be staff members of bilateral and multilateral organizations.
  • Current and previous employees of GDN or its Regional Network Partners (RNPs) are ineligible to apply until 5 years from their date of completion of tenure.
  • Members of evaluation teams, previous Board Members and project mentors of GDN, past and current AMC reviewers are ineligible.
  • Finalists and past ORD winners cannot apply with the same or similar research proposal.
  • Winners cannot apply until 3 subsequent years of successful proposal submission.

 

Ministry of Finance, Government of Japan is supporting Global Development Awards Competition to pursue research. Applicants from Low and Middle-income countries are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme.

The Awards Competition recognizes excellence in policy-oriented research, supports research capacity development of researchers in developing countries and funds innovative social development projects benefiting marginalized groups in the developing world.

The GDN Global Research Agenda is a central piece of GDN’s new strategy for three main reasons. First, the global research agenda plays the crucial role of providing the organization with a common intellectual ground on which to structure its capacity building activities as distinct parts of an articulated and cohesive whole. Second, prioritizing and fixing a global research agenda is a cost-effective way to harmonize programs, to articulate portfolio elements, and to secure the building up of a stock of knowledge in a predefined set of priority development themes across the developing world.

Category 1: Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development (ORD)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Eligible countries for the ORD competition are those classified as low-income or middle-income countries.
  • Open only to researchers who are nationals of an eligible country
  • Open to citizens of eligible countries who are temporarily based in a non-eligible country but not for more than five years as of 16 July, 2017
  • The upper age limit for all applicants is 45 years as of 16 July, 2017
  • Staff members of multilateral and bilateral organizations are NOT eligible to apply
  • Previous and current employees of GDN or its Regional Network Partners (RNPs) are NOT eligible to apply up till 5 years from the completion of their tenure. Previous GDN Board Members, project mentors and members of evaluation teams are NOT eligible to apply
  • Similar proposals or papers resulting as products from full or partial GDN funded activities cannot be submitted for this competition

  • Past and current AMC reviewers are not eligible to take part in the competition.

Category 2: Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project (MIDP)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The MIDP Award is open to all development projects being implemented in low-income countries and lower-middle-income countries.
  • The project must be managed by a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with its headquarters in one of the above eligible countries. The NGO must be non-profit.
  • The project implementation must have started before 01June, 2016.
  • Submissions concerning a recently started project or only a project idea or a feasibility or baseline study will not be considered.
  • Submissions for funding conferences (either in part or in full) will not be considered.
  • Applicants from previous years (except winners) may re-apply, but they must update the application to include new aspects of the project.
  • Previous MIDP winners are not eligible to apply.

The Canon Foundation is offering Canon Research Fellowship, 2017 to highly qualified Japanese and European researchers who wish to conduct research in any field of interest in Europe and Japan respectively.

Eligibility criteria:

DNP Foundation for Cultural Promotion Graphic Culture Research Grant, 2017 is being awarded to provide support to research related to graphic design and graphic arts from various disciplines.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants of DNP Foundation for Cultural Promotion Graphic Culture Research Grant, 2017 should be scholars i.e either groups or individuals conducting graphic design or graphic art research.
  • Applicants should be faculty or graduate students affiliated with a university.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Candidates applying for Kokudo Foundation Scholarship, 2017 must have come to Japan for research or studies.

The Chiba University is accepting applications for Kokudo Foundation Scholarships. Scholarships are open for potential students from countries outside of Japan who matriculated as regular students (either undergraduate or graduate) as of April 2017, regardless of academic department or field of study.

Chiba University and it is also abbreviated as Chibadai is a national university in the city of Chiba, Japan. It offers Doctoral degrees in education as part of a coalition with Tokyo Gakugei University, Saitama University, and Yokohama National University.

Course Level: Scholarships are available for undergraduate or graduate programme.

Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to study the subjects offered by the university.

Scholarship Award: Payment of Scholarship

  • Amount Provided: ¥100,000 per month (This scholarship is paid to the recipient and does not need to be reimbursed to the foundation at a later date.)
  • Paid to the recipient on the last day of each month (If the last day of the month coincides with a bank holiday, then payment will be provided on the day prior.)
