Academic Medical Centre is offering AMC MD/Ph.D. Scholarship, 2017 to students who wish to pursue MD/Ph.D. at the University of Amsterdam.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants of AMC MD/Ph.D. Scholarship, 2017 must have begun their Bachelor’s degree in Medicine in the year 2014/15 or started earlier without any study delay or begun the AMC premaster program in Summer 2016.
  • Candidates must not have yet started their clinical internship rotations and wouldn’t start before March 1, 2018, or they must be students who are accepted in “nominal students program 2016-2017”.
  • A Bachelor’s or Premaster degree in Medicine must be obtained by the students before January 1, 2018.
  • Candidates applying for AMC MD/Ph.D. Scholarship, 2017 must have obtained strong marks in their Bachelor’s and/or premaster courses.
  • Applicants must either be a co-author of an accepted publication or equivalent contribution to research and/or have done extracurricular research activities in the AMC or affiliated research institutes especially in the research field mentioned in the application.
  • An explicit agreement from an AMC professor stating that they’d act as Ph.D. supervisor is essential.

The Academic Medical Center (AMC) is one of the eight university medical centers in the country and is considered in academic medicine to the international top.  As a university medical center AMC has three main tasks. Most important is the treatment of patients. In addition, many medical researches conducted at the AMC. The third task is to provide education and training.

Study Subject: Scholarship is awarded in the field of Medicine.

Scholarship Award: Half the funding for a flexible oio is available for an internally funded MD/PhD Scholarships, i.e. €108,023 (80% of total scholarship). The department has to match the remaining 20% (€27,006). For externally funded MD/PhD Scholarships, your supervisor has to provide a similar total sum.

Nuffic, through the Netherlands Fellowship Programme, provide scholarships for a number of selected courses offered by education institutions in the Netherlands. The courses lead to a Dutch certificate or a diploma and their duration varies from two weeks to twelve months.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

An NFP fellowship is intended to supplement the salary that the fellow should continue to receive during the study period. The allowance is a contribution towards the costs of living, the costs of tuition fees, visas, travel, insurance and thesis research. If applicable, the fellowship holder is expected to cover the difference between the actual costs and the amount of the personal NFP allowances.
