Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship in the field of heterogeneous catalysis in the synthesis gas program of change at the University of Cape Town. The fellowship is available for South African applicants to pursue the postdoctoral programme.

The aim of the fellowship is to develop an understanding of specific aspects of Fischer-Tropsch and related synthesis with emphasis on catalyst preparation and characterisation.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following area for the scholarship:

  • Eligible applicants must hold a PhD degree in Heterogeneous Catalysis by metal catalysts. The PhD must have been granted within the past 5 years or provide satisfactory evidence that the PhD thesis has been submitted for examination should be provided.
  • Applicants may not have held any permanent academic or professional posts. Applicants with specific experience in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, techniques of product analysis (including GC-MS), catalyst and nano materials preparation and characterisation will be given preference.
  • The successful candidate will be encouraged to conduct his/her own self-initiated research during the tenure of the fellowship under the supervision of Prof Michael Claeys, and will be expected to register as a PDRF at UCT by no later than 31 July 2017. Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

  • Holders of a Research Doctorate awarded not more than three years prior to the closing date of 28 June 2017 (i.e. awarded on or after 28 June 2014) are eligible to apply. Postdoctoral Fellows will be early career researchers who show potential to become leaders in their field.
  • Applicants who have not been awarded their Research Doctorate by the closing date must have submitted their thesis by 28 June 2017. If the Research Doctorate has not been conferred by this date a letter is required from the relevant institution confirming that the thesis has been submitted for examination.

The Institute for Basic Science is offering IBS Young Scientist Fellowship, 2017 is being granted to promote the science leaders of the next generation.

Eligibility criteria:

  • IBS Young Scientist Fellowship, 2017 is available to Korean citizens.
